Limited Purpose Visa

Applying for a limited purpose visa
or permit
The Student Visa/Permit Application can also
be used to apply for a limited purpose visa or a
further limited purpose permit. You can apply
for a limited purpose visa if you wish to come to
New Zealand for an express purpose to study. If
you want to apply for a limited purpose visa and
your express purpose is not to study, you should
use the form Application for Visiting New Zealand
(NZIS 1017).
If you are issued with a limited purpose visa and
are granted a limited purpose permit at the
border, you will not be able to apply for any other
type of permit during your stay in New Zealand.
Holding a limited purpose permit also restricts
immigration rights when you are in New Zealand.
To find out whether applying for a limited purpose
visa rather than a student visa is the best option
for you, please read the leaflet Information on
Limited Purpose Visas and Permits (INZ 1070).
